Carlo Balmelli
Conductor
Carlo Balmelli is among the best-known Swiss orchestra conductors, also at the head of the Stadtharmonie Zürich Oerlikon-Seebach and of the Konkordia of Egerkingen, also these musical ensembles of excellence. Balmelli is also a professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana.
His in-depth training process in the musical field began in 1986 with six years of study in the trombone class of prof. Branimir Slokar at the Bern Conservatory. Subsequently (1989-1992), again at the Conservatory of the federal capital, he followed the orchestra conducting course in the class of dr. Ewald Korner. In 1995 he obtained the professional diploma of conductor of wind orchestras at the Conservatory of Lucerne in the class of Joseph Gnos. Since 2002 he has been responsible for the Mendrisio branch of the Music School of the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland, and at the Lugano University School of Music, since 2020 he has been teaching trombone teaching.
In 2022 he was awarded the prestigious Stephan Jaeggi prize, the highest Swiss award in the band field. He recently received the 2023 Music Prize from the Federal Office of Culture.
