Thomas Trachsel
Compositore
«From the first moment it was exciting to be able to compose the music for an opera and, although at heart I am a symphonic composer, the task seemed made for me: the libretto required to use exactly this musical language. The text has all the contents of a great dramatic work.
Love-hate, death, forgiveness, revenge, annihilation and... despite everything, love will win. It was precisely these themes that shaped the music for Maddalena's story in me and in the end allowed me to put my musical thought on paper in a concrete way.
Above all, I was able to fully experience my passion for dramatic music without having to stick to conventions».
Thomas Trachsel (1972), graduated from the Bern University of Music as a wind orchestra conductor and graduated with honours in 2000. He also attended a master class with Andreas Spörri. Thomas Trachsel works as a conductor and guest conductor of various wind orchestras and brass bands as well as a teacher for music theory and music history. He also takes part as an expert at competitions and music festivals.
Thomas Trachsel is a freelance composer and has written commissioned works for the Federal Music Festival and the National Youth Brass Band. The musical language in his works is based on the late romantic tradition mixed with contemporary elements.
Typical of his style are sentences and themes with a melancholy effect, large-scale arcs of tension, huge bursts of sound and an extremely demanding type of orchestration.
